1947
The Oriental opens at Darshani Gate.
The Oriental name has stood at the mouth of Paltan Bazaar — the city's oldest market — since 1947, kept by one family across the generations. The bazaar grew up around it; trains came and went a few steps away; and the hotel stayed exactly where it began.

Old soul, new building
By the time the old structure had given all it could, dressing it up would have been pretending. So just before the world went quiet, we took it down and built it again from the ground up — the same corner, the same family, the same welcome, with rooms that are genuinely new.

Kept in the family
The same family has run the Oriental from the start — which is why a stay here still feels less like checking in and more like being shown around by someone who knows the city by heart.
